Fad diets are extremely popular simply because they promise quick weight loss. And who doesn’t want to lose weight.. fast?? However, there are reasons why dieters should not fall into the trap of fad diets and instead, make sensible lifestyle changes, such as eating low fat, small meals and exercising regularly.
Fad diets usually make a dieter lose a lot of water and so, when you stand on the weighing scales, you see the lower numbers and jump with joy. Well, that joy wouldn’t last for long when you go off the fad diet and resume normal eating. The weight and in some cases, even more comes back with a vengeance.
Another reason fad diets don’t work is that it is not possible for anyone to keep eating just a few foods their entire life. Not only is it immensely boring, it also isn’t healthy.
Thirdly, fad diets can be harmful to the body. They reduce intake of several healthy foods and cut down on important nutrients.
And lastly, fad diets make you feel deprived and hence,the chance to fall off the wagon and go binging is much higher. This alone can make you put on weight once you lose it, hence, the yo-yo effect.
So, instead of falling prey to the lure of fad diets, make sensible changes to your lifestyle. Throw out the junk foods and processed foods. Stock up on healthy fruits and vegetables. Eat smaller meals. Exercise more. The weight loss may take more time but it will stay off for good.
